New postgraduate students enroll twice a year for both clinical Masters training programs (June and December) and research and mixed mode programs (April and October). As the postgraduate secretariat, it is our task to conduct briefing on every aspect of students’ academic journey and life on campus. This year, we organized three online briefings to the new students. We invited panelists which included lecturers and academic officers to share crucial information related to course registration, university regulations and guidelines, and to provide an overview regarding health and library services.

Covid-19 has not only affected the lives of many people but also dramatically changed the academic landscape worldwide. To deal with the aftermath, we took the initiative to call for a meeting among program coordinators in Bayview Penang Hotel on the 3rd and 4th December 2022.

Discussions were centred around quality and accreditation, supervision of postgraduate students, strategies to increase the number of international postgraduate students, efficiency of visa processing, and integration of work life balance.

The Robing Ceremony for Doctor of Philosophy graduates for the year 2022 was successfully conducted on the 25 th November 2022 at the HCTM Auditorium. The ceremony included graduates from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dentistry, and Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI).

The ceremony is a tradition that the faculty has continued to uphold in order to celebrate the success of students in completing their PhD journey, and to appreciate the hard work of their supervisors. In addition, PhD graduates who Graduated on Time (GOT), and who fulfilled ‘Excellent Thesis’ criteria, and their respective supervisors were awarded with a prize and certificate.

In total, there were 30 PhD graduates from the Faculty of Medicine, 14 from the Faculty of Health Sciences, four from UMBI, and three from the Faculty of Pharmacy, and one from the Faculty of Dentistry. This year, we gave out the prize to students who successfully graduated on time as well as to recipients for ‘Excellent Thesis’.

Major curriculum review was conducted in order to conform with the National Curriculum Framework. We have organized seven workshops with clinical postgraduate program coordinators to review the postgraduate clinical masters curriculum. We also invited speakers from Ts. Dr. Zulkefli Mansor, Deputy Director (Curriculum Development) from Pengajaran ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ to elaborate on the processes and procedures related to curriculum review.

On 27 September 2022, UNPAD paid a visit to the Faculty of Medicine ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ to discuss the possible collaboration in postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Masters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Dr ObsGyn, ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´) ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´-UNPAD. Delegates from UNPAD and ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ convened and discussed several issues regarding the new program.
