CITRA: Know Your Body Programme (Histology Hack)

The Histology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, successfully hosted the CITRA Know Your Body Programme (Histology Hack) on 8 April 2026. The programme involved the participation of 20 students under the guidance of lecturers and staff from the Department of Anatomy.

Throughout the programme, participants were exposed to the comprehensive process of histological slide preparation, starting from the grossing stage, tissue processing, and culminating in slide observation using a microscope. This exposure aimed to provide students with a clearer understanding of how histological slides are produced and their importance in the medical field.

It is hoped that this programme will enhance students’ interest and knowledge in histology, while also providing a more meaningful hands-on learning experience.

EID AL-FITR CELEBRATION AT THE DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY 2026

The Department of Anatomy organized an Eid al-Fitr celebration on 1 April 2026 in a warm and harmonious atmosphere. The event was held to commemorate the festive occasion while strengthening the spirit of camaraderie among members of the department.

The celebration was attended by academic staff, administrative personnel, and students, all of whom contributed to the lively and joyous ambiance. A variety of traditional Eid dishes such as ketupat, lemang, rendang, and assorted festive delicacies were served for all guests to enjoy.

In addition, the event served as a platform to foster teamwork and promote a sense of unity among members of the Department of Anatomy. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere was evident throughout the celebration.

It is hoped that such events will continue to be organized in the future as a means of strengthening bonds and maintaining harmony within the department.

ANATOMY INTENSIVE COURSE (AIC) NEWTON 8.0

The Anatomy Intensive Course (AIC) Newton 8.0 was successfully conducted on 17 December 2025 at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (ԭ).

The programme involved students from Newton International College and aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of human anatomical structures through a module-based learning approach comprising both theoretical and practical sessions, including exposure to cadaver preservation techniques.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Head of the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, ԭ, Dr. Fairus Ahmad. The organisation of this course reflects the Department of Anatomy’s commitment to supporting academic activities and sharing expertise in the field of anatomy and medical education.

FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR PUAN AFIQAH ABDUL RAZAK

8 December 2025 | the Department of Anatomy organised a Farewell Ceremony to celebrate the promotion of Puan Afiqah Abdul Razak to the position of Medical Laboratory Technologist U6 at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Kuala Lumpur Campus. The ceremony was held at the Department of Anatomy Meeting Room.

The event was organised as a gesture of appreciation for her dedicated service, commitment, and contributions throughout her tenure with the department. The Department of Anatomy extends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Puan Afiqah for continued success as she undertakes her new role and responsibilities.

The ceremony concluded with a presentation of a token of appreciation, followed by a photography session with department members.

Community Service Programme: Exploration of Prehistoric Skeletons and Human Bones

3 November 2025 | The Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (ԭ) organised a Community Service Programme themed “Exploration of Prehistoric Skeletons and Human Bones” on 3 November 2025 as an initiative to provide early exposure to the study of anatomy and biomedical sciences.

The programme involved 92 students and 10 accompanying lecturers from Kolej PERMATA @ PINTAR Negara. Throughout the programme, participants attended briefings on the structure of the human skeleton and its importance in medical education and research.

Participants also had the opportunity to join a learning visit to the Anatomy & Pathology Museum and the Dissection Hall of the Department of Anatomy, where they were briefed on anatomical specimen collections, teaching processes, and the application of anatomical knowledge in medical training.

This programme is expected to broaden the participants’ understanding of anatomy while strengthening collaborative ties between ԭ and external educational institutions in advancing STEM and biomedical science education.

Congratulations to Dr. Rasyidah Rehir, Recipient of the Merdeka Award Grant 2025

Congratulations to Dr. Rasyidah Rehir on being awarded the Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment 2025, a prestigious recognition presented by the Merdeka Award Trust.

This selection acknowledges her commitment and dedication in advancing the field of cadaver preservation and research related to the Thiel Embalming Technique. Through this grant, Dr. Rasyidah plans to undergo attachments at several world-renowned institutions, including the University of Dundee (UK), the University of Graz (Austria), as well as several countries in Asia to further enhance her expertise in modern preservation techniques.

May this achievement continue to bring pride to the nation and contribute significantly to the development of anatomy programmes and medical training in Malaysia.

22 September 2025 – The Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, held the Farewell Ceremony for Mrs. Maznah Buang and Appreciation Ceremony for Mrs. Noor Azlina Zulkefli as a gesture of gratitude and recognition for their dedication and contributions to the department.

The ceremony was organized to celebrate the retirement of Mrs. Maznah Buang, who has devoted 14 years of service to the Department of Anatomy. Throughout her tenure, she was remembered as a dedicated, disciplined, and highly committed individual who performed her duties with excellence.

In addition, the event also honored Mrs. Noor Azlina Zulkefli in conjunction with her transfer to another department. Her valuable contributions and service during her time in the Department of Anatomy were celebrated with deep appreciation and respect.

The ceremony, held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, featured appreciation speeches, presentation of tokens of appreciation, and a gathering with all department members.

PREMIER GOTONG-ROYONG PROGRAM AT THE PRE-CLINICAL BUILDING, FACULTY OF MEDICINE

The Faculty of Medicine successfully organised the Premier Gotong-Royong at the Pre-Clinical Building on 10 September 2025, from 8.00 AM to 10.00 AM. This vibrant and spirited programme saw the participation of academic staff, support personnel, and students from the faculty.

Among the departments involved was the Department of Anatomy, along with other faculty members, who worked hand in hand to carry out cleaning activities, reorganisation of facilities, and beautification of the surrounding areas.

The objective of this programme extended beyond maintaining a clean, cheerful, and conducive environment—it also served to instil values of cooperation, responsibility, and a sense of belonging among the members of the Faculty of Medicine.

The Faculty extends its heartfelt appreciation to all participants for their commitment and dedication, which contributed to making the Premier Gotong-Royong at the Pre-Clinical Building a successful and meaningful event.

Universitas Indonesia Delegation’s Academic Visit to the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, ԭ

Cheras, 19 August 2025 – The Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (ԭ), received a courtesy visit from the delegation of Universitas Indonesia, Faculty of Medicine, in an academic visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two institutions.

The delegation was led by Sasanthy Kusumaningtyas, Head of the Department of Anatomy, Universitas Indonesia, accompanied by Deswaty Furqonita (Head of Anatomy Laboratory), Drg. Haamid Hasan Haikal (Anatomy Department staff), Wahyudin (Anatomy Laboratory Technician), and Farah Fadhilah Rosyadi (Coordinator of the Anatomy Department Visit Programme).

The visit was also joined by academic members of ԭ, namely Dr. Mohamad Fairuz Yahaya (Deputy Head of the Department of Anatomy), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elvy Suhana Mohd Ramli (Medical Lecturer DU14 ), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teoh Seong Lin ( University Lecturer DS14), Dr. Taty Anna Kamarudin ( University Lecturer DS13), Dr. Mohd Amir Kamaruzzaman ( Medical Lecturer DU13), Dr. Rasyidah Rehir ( Medical Trainee Lecturer DU13P), and Mr. Shaiful Ridzwan Sapri (Medical Laboratory Technologist U7).

The primary purpose of this visit was to explore potential future collaborations in the field of academic and anatomical education, while also gaining deeper insights into the implementation and development of anatomy laboratory management at ԭ.

The Universitas Indonesia delegation also expressed their admiration for the expertise and contributions of the Department of Anatomy, ԭ, in advancing medical education and anatomical sciences at both the national and international levels. This visit is expected to pave the way for the exchange of ideas, the strengthening of institutional ties, and the enhancement of academic excellence between the two faculties.

Meeting Session with YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Aris from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM as External Examiner

31 July 2025, a meeting session was held with YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Aris Mohd Moklas from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia, who served as the External Examiner for the Final Examination of Semester II, Year 1, Doctor of Medicine Programme at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (ԭ).

The session aimed to discuss the overall evaluation of the examination and to gather professional insights towards enhancing the quality of academic assessment and teaching at the undergraduate level. It also served to strengthen collaborative ties between institutions in ensuring the continued excellence and standard of the medical programme.
